I adore the Disney classics but this one missed the mark for soooo many reasons. It really feels like they just said, “let the interns take a crack at one!” and that’s how ‘Wish’ came to be.
The lyrics in this songs of this movie feel like they may have been written by AI with the prompt “Disney + Lin Manuel Miranda + Dad Jokes.”
Not only is the music subpar and the story is weird, it has some problematic concepts for those who hold to a Biblical worldview. One of the main themes of the movie is that we’re all stardust. While I understand the science behind this, they portray this idea in a way that leans away from the scientific and into the New Age. It likens humanity to animals, trees, rocks, stars, and being the Universe. This can lead to a dangerous worldview that says we are the same as the universe and that the universe is God. This ideology can lead people to worship creation rather than the Creator.
For all of these reasons, I don’t think this movie is worth it.
